Travel Tip: Check Hotel Rates AFTER You Book

We all know that hotel rates can change drastically from one day to the next — sometimes they go up, sometimes they go down. If you’ve booked your vacation months in advance, like many people do, chances are the rate at the time of booking will change prior to check-in — and there’s always a strong possibility it will actually go down, not up.

If you haven’t paid for your accommodations in full at the time you notice the rate drop, you can easily modify your reservation to get the new advertised rate. Until you pay in full, you’re never locked in. The worst case scenario is you cancel your existing reservation and create a new one to get the new advertised rate.

So even after you’ve booked, keep checking the rates. Otherwise, you may end up paying more than you have to.
